Ccapp.exe Not Responding

The Ccapp.exe process not responding message is displayed during restarting or shutdown sessions on computers that have Norton Anti-virus installed. This message signals that the antivirus was running a background scan process that was interrupted when the computer user tried to reboot or shutdown the computer.

The freezing of the system that occurs when ever the user tries to reboot the system is a sign of the resistance that emanates from the anti-virus. The ccapp.exe is a harmless process by Norton that ensures that email is protected. However, one should check the system32 files to ensure that whenever they see in the message is actually from Norton. This is because virus developers usually disguise their harmful programs with names from authentic companies.

Although a legitimate file, systems that display the ccapp not responding message have a big percentage of the memory occupied by the ccapp.exe process, which usually eats up a sizeable amount of the CPU resources. The amount of time with which it drags reboot or system shutdown is linked to the fact that the internet security hangs on close to system shutdown in order to prevent viruses that could be stored in the memory from harming the computer’s operating software.

The ccapp not responding message could also be displayed when one has an outdated Norton Anti-Virus version on his/her system. To correct this, one should install updates for the Norton Antispam or common client available on Norton’s website. One could also acquire the updates by running a live update. This only takes effect when one restarts the computer. Though disabling the ccapp application is not advisable as it exposes one’s computer to possible virus infections, those that feel that the problem is too much to handle they could disable the application from the start bar> all programs >Norton Antivirus > auto protect > advanced. The advanced window gives the user an option to either check or uncheck the ‘scan floppy’ option. Un-checking this option should disable the application. This however takes effect after restarting the system.

Complete removal of the application could however lead to improper functioning of outlook mail among other applications like free cell. Due to these errors one may have to re-install the Norton anti-virus in which case, the same ccapp not responding recurs. The only solution to manage the problem therefore is to choose a different antivirus or enable the ‘receive live updates’ option. This ensures that the auto-protection and email scans run smoothly.
