Keyboard Keys Not Responding

There are variable reasons that may give a keyboard keys not responding error message. The most common reason is when fluids and/or liquids are split over the board. This problem is a result of the liquid sipping into the key board circuit and interfering wit the computer’s operations. That is why it is always ill advised to have drinks near or around the key board proximity. Wiping off the split liquid might not help the situation much.

In case water spills onto the keyboard, the following can be undertaken to restore the key board. One will need deionized water, ninety one or ninety nine percent isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs (Q-tips), a rug and silicon spray. Once armed with these materials there are two options available in undertaking the clean up technique. In the first instance the user has the option of soaking the entire keyboard in deionized water for a short interval. It is essential to completely submerge the whole keyboard. The process is repeated with several douses of anhydrous isopropyl alcohol.

Since moisture may lead to keyboard keys not responding, the next option is to disassemble the entire keyboard and proceed to concentrate the desiccation to locales that are suspected to have been adversely affected by the spill. Only deionized water is to be used in conducting the cleaning and always retain the alcohol for end use. Moreover, it is important to work in a well ventilated area and ensure that the keyboard is left to dry completely in the open. Lastly, the silicon spray is to be used lightly on mobile components of the keyboard. One would also be advised to test the spray before directly application it onto the keyboard as it may corrode the plastic.

Meanwhile, other reasons that may lead to keyboard keys not responding would be battery failure. In such instances as when the key board keys are not responding right from the boot process, the user should delete the CMOS through removal of the power lead and battery, then relocating the CMOS jumper from pins one and two, to pins 2 and three and then returning it back to the original pins one and two. Follow to replace the battery, the power lead and reboot the system. If all these options do not work and the user still gets keyboard keys not responding errors, they should consult the warranty, and let a professional handle the repair.
